My Impossible List

my impossible list, on the mountains

I’ve had a plain old bucket list sitting in a google doc ever since I was in high school. However, I never got around to anything on the list – it was all events that I just assumed would eventually happen later in the future – some undefined time that kept me content with my belief that I did not have to take action NOW.

Luckily, I think I’ve found a solution: an Impossible List. I found the idea while scrolling through Thomas Frank’s blog, CollegeInfoGeek, but it looks like Joel Runyon had the original idea and created the world’s first impossible list and defined the difference between it and just a normal bucket list. Put simply, the impossible list is an ever-evolving list of experiences that define how you live, how you enrich other’s lives, and demands you to take action right now. It challenges you to question what’s impossible right now, and push you to bigger and better things rather than be comfortable with where you currently are. A bucket list expires when you die. The impossible list is about what you’re aspiring to do right now… because right now is the only time you really have.

Think about what your true life goals are? What’s your vision? Where do you want to be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? What kind of person do you want to become? What kinds of things would you like to have accomplished? Write these things down, and constantly evaluate your progress towards them.
